Recently, MIT Technology Review announced its annual list of Innovators Under 35 of 2020(China).
Yihao Yang, from ISEE, is named on this prestigious list on which talented technologists who contribute to transform the world are awarded.
Yang has been awarded for his being the first to realize a three-dimensional optical topological insulator experimentally, and developed on-chip communication based on terahertz topological optics. He also explored a quasi-particle that has never been discovered in the research of topological physics—the Weyl quasi-particle with spin 1. particle. This work provides a new idea for the study of hyperbolic artificial electromagnetic materials and provides a new research platform for polariton photonics. In the field of applied research, the hyperbolic supersurface is expected to be applied to ultra-compact waveguide circuits, slow-light devices, wireless energy transmission, and low-threshold terahertz free electron lasers.
